Background

The Company Broadband Networks R&D Center is located in Beijing and is a key part of Company’s development strategy. Its scope is to develop and costs reduce existing products. The products are for the Company’s global product port folio, but it also supports the local Market Unit with specific product localization. The development is within all parts of the Broadband Networks products from cable & Site solutions to entire systems including Management.

Applicable standards are GPON, Carrier Ethernet, uWave, Mobile Back Haul, PWE3, ATM and SDH/PDH

Objective of the job

The Broadband Networks (BN) System Engineer (SE) objective is to organize market and product requirements into specific technical requirements that can be used as input to the design teams. The main interfaces are Company Product Management globally or locally within a certain product area.

The BN SE must secure an efficient cooperation between design teams, Integration & Verification, Sourcing and supply and act as a technical lead in projects on behalf of the Project Manager & System Design Manager.

The BN SE is involved in a very early phase of projects so detailed knowledge of both product & new technologies must be constantly updated as a part of the job.

Responsibilities

 

To carry out the assigned tasks and report progress to the System Design Manager and Project Manager.

To lead technical teams during quick or feasibility study periods of a project and produce Implementation Proposals, Statement of Compliance to requirements and input to sourcing for pricing analysis

To manage the necessary technical communication with peer organizations to fulfill the requirements for the projects

To secure quality of the project developed at the BN Design Center by chairing the Change Control Boards (CCB) for designated products

Comply with and follow the directives, instructions and procedures implemented in the R&D Center.

To support the System Design Manager that Ways of Working & processes are kept up to date for an efficient R&D operation

Main tasks

 

Come with inputs to overall system product design based on requirements raised by Product Management.

Take lead in HW design tasks as a part of larger product design projects

Analyze new technologies and existing systems to come up with proposals for either performance or cost improvements.

Make sure local projects are aligned with global Company technology and product roadmaps

Participate in local Chinese Standardization when applicable

QUALIFICATION

University degree in CS, EE, Telecom or equivalent

Excellent knowledge of Communication systems and their design

Minimum 3 years experience in a relevant technical areas; e.g. Transmission networks (SDH, Metro Ethernet MEF etc), Access technologies (xDSL, PON, CATV etc) or IP Access Aggregation (Ethernet Switching, Routing, QoS etc), with proven industry experience.

At least one major contribution in a HW or SW project preferable within communication systems in an international company or major Chinese company. (i.e. Chassis based system with High speed backplanes and redundant line cards)

Detailed architectural knowledge of telecom systems

Desired experience on FPGA’s, purpose built ASIC’s (i.e. Ethernet Switching ASIC, xDSL chipsets) and communication/network processor

Desired experience on Linux based SW architectures and/or Telecom management systems

Desired Experience with custom ASIC design

Experience with European and American product certification & approval

Experience with production methods and quality insurance

Understanding of the Telecom market and its players

Good communication skills and social ability.

Fluent in English speaking and writing.
