HW Verification Department Manager

PURPOSE OF JOB:
Describe the overall nature and purpose of the job as it exists today.
Creating a best in class Mobile phone/tablet HW system verification organization with regards to resource efficiency and technology coverage supporting both local and global product projects.
The team shall be developed from the current functions of EL Radio/ANT/OTA system verification (EL T&V) and Mechanical reliability (GREAT) system tests to cover all HW system areas with 12-18months.
The manager of this team must have a strong strategically capability a long with a good understanding of how to optimize tools, methods and resources (competences & equipment) with regards to automation, test management and result reporting/analysis.
The purpose of the team is not to create a Validation team, but to secure HW system performance “by design” using the test and accumulated results to drive design guidelines and early simulations.
The team will be serving all HW functions for verification and has the overall responsibility to optimize the resources (China Development Hardware test plant investments & maintenance budgets is delegated to this function) for the assigned port folio as well as serving other sites with excess verification capacity.
The manager shall secure a strong global alignment on HW system verification and reliability testing with the global HW development organization as well as the peer interfaces at Q&CS (Mainly GTA).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 As a department manager, set the department targets and long term strategy in accordance with the China HW line targets and direction. Follow up department performance and implement continued improvements to increase efficiency.
2 As a department manager, join local and global Management forums to drive the daily business and activities coordinated with the local and global HW organizations as well as key peer organizations locally and globally
3 As a Department manager, drive department’s competence profile and resource plans to meet current and coming business needs.
4 As line manager, take the overall responsibility of all deliverables from the HW verification department and the continued process/efficiency improvement targets and implementation
5 As China HW test plant owner, drive continued investment and maintenance to secure lab resource availability as well as utilization in accordance with the local and global HW project port folios.
ADDITIONAL INPUT:
Current teams scope is only EL Radio/ANT/OTA testing (EL T&V) and Mechanical Reliability (GREAT) and must be transformed to cover the entire phone HWs system performance testing by CY2015
FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
1 At least 5 years of experience with product quality control and system verification within the telecommunication industry with proven performance leading at least one major one major implementation activity
2 At least 2 years of relevant leadership experience showing ability to do organizational development driving performance oriented teams
3 Strong analytic skills and experience with test management systems to secure best in class system implementations for an efficient team with a global reach
4 Result driven (Efficiency, time & quality) and capable of seizing new opportunities when possible through innovation & observation
5 Proven capable of breaking down high level strategy to detailed activities to improve efficiency and drive competence development
6 Proven capable of driving complex teams across organizations locally & globally with at least one proven success of a global activity
7 Excellent communication skills (internal & external + local & global)
8 Capable of analyzing and concluding actions based on trends, statistics & results
